Al Ogair Tourism Destination is considered to be the first and largest ever tourism destination in Saudi Arabia to be fully adopted by the government of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud (may Allah’s mercy be on him).

Therefore, responding to the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah be merciful to him) with regard to finalizing the company’s establishment, on Tuesday, 10 September 2013. The Articles of incorporation of the company were signed at a capital of 2 billion and 710 million Saudi Riyals, (SR 2.71b)
The contract was concluded in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of SCTA and His Royal Highness Saud bin Naif bin Abdul Aziz, Governor of the Eastern Province and Chairman of the Eastern Province Tourism Development Council.
The plan of Al Ogair Development Project was submitted to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for approval during his visit to Al Ahsa municipality in 2006. The project was then announced as a major multi-purpose coastal tourism destination. A move that was followed by the issuance of a Royal Approval in 2008.
The project was approved as a model of investment based on partnership between the public and private sectors. Accordingly, its development plan was revised and upgraded. In addition, a feasibility study was carried out in collaboration with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Al Ahsa Municipality, in which the international economic developments as well as the development of tourism markets were taken into account.
The Council of Ministers, issued a resolution (No. 301) in 2011, with which allocation of a required fund of about SR 1.4 billion was approved for the relevant public authorities to extend the infrastructure and services of Al Ogair Project to the borders of its area.
The total area of the project is 100 million square meters, including a coastline stretching over 24 km along the Arabian Gulf coast. The project is located about 70 km from Dammam and Al Hofuf, and about 400 km from the city of Riyadh, capital of Saudi Arabia.
Saudis and residents in the Eastern Province and Riyadh, and from other provinces, as well as visitors from the GCC countries will be first to benefit from the project. The GCC population is about 15.6 million who will benefit extensively due to the proximity to the Al Ogair project.
Al Ogair Project, as the first national tourism destination in which the government has contributed heavily, aims essentially to nationalize tourism in the Kingdom.
The seaport of has a historical significance, besides it is important sea outlet for Al Ahsa. In the past, it was a center for import of goods from outside of Arabia to Al Ahsa and the Najd region. Besides, it was a scene of important events in the reign of King Abdul Aziz al Saud, the founder King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The project consists of a number of recreation facilities and services designed to meet the aspirations of different groups of the society including families.
