National Museum


The National Museum was established as a national landmark in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to contribute to the enrichment process of education, cultural awareness, and the development of long association with the citizens, and to be an eternal message. The National Museum occupies over seventeen thousand square meters on the eastern side of the King Abdulaziz Historical Center and the total area of the premises of the building, which is consisting of two storeys, reaches twenty-eight thousand square meters. The museum is providing an educational environment for different segments of the society and in multiple levels. The National Museum has a variety of exhibits including antiquities, documents, manuscripts, display boards as well as the use of latest means of multimedia displays in addition to documentaries and scientific films in many halls.

Exhibition Hall of Man and Universe

This hall reviews the scientific phenomena which show the greatness of the Almighty Creator in the creation of the universe and the factors affecting the earth’s surface as well as various patterns of life in different geological ages besides various environments of prehistoric man. The museum is displaying different kinds of rocks, meteors, mineral and fossils which indicate geological fluctuations since millions of years. Regarding preserving the environment, a special ward has been set apart for the wildlife in the Kingdom. As for the history of man in the prehistoric Arabian Peninsula, the museum is displaying the period in the form of antiquities and exhibits reflecting how he coped with the human environment and the old stone tools and methods of manufacture, development and housing models for human and rock-drawings of prehistoric man, among others.

Exhibition Hall of Arab Kingdoms

The period extends from the 6th millennium BC to the history of Arabian Peninsula. The exhibits of this period are divided into three major wings, beginning with the exhibiting the important historical and cultural elements. First wing is allocated for highlighting ancient civilizations that arose into Arabian Peninsula; the second wing is devoted to Arab Kingdoms of the middle ages. The third wing displays the period of late Arab Kingdoms. These wards are displaying many other antiquity items, modules, photos, images, maps, besides audio visual displays.

Exhibition Hall of Pre-Islamic Era (Age of Jahilia)

It highlights the Arabian Peninsula and its populations, important cities, industries and markets of that period, which were not limited to trade but as a political, cultural and commercial competition forum attracting and gathering poets and preachers from different tribes. Also it is reflecting pilgrimage journey in the ignorant times, as well as the important cities at that time and their pilgrimage practices. Beside it is highlighting the famous historical Year of the Elephant - A'm Al Feel military campaign, the year that witnessed the birth of Prophet Mohammad "God's Blessings and Peace be upon him" in 570 AD.

Exhibition Hall of Prophetic Mission

This hall includes paintings indicating the Prophet Mohammad's (God's Blessings and Peace be upon him) lineage as well as his family and his brief biography since his birth in Makkah until his migration to Al Madinah. The exhibited materials include manuscripts of holy Qur'an version and paintings and road maps of his migration from Makkah to Al Madinah. That besides, the corridor gives the presentation of the migration episode reflected through the audio-visual means of a masterly and distinct artistic production.

Exhibition of Islam & Arabian Peninsula

Exhibition in this hall highlights important periods of Islamic history starting from the arrival of Prophet Mohammad (God's Blessings and Peace be upon him) through the Madinah era Caliphs. It also presents the expansion and the prosperity in Umayyad era as well as the development of civilization and sciences in Abbasid, Mamluk and Ottoman era. Besides it displays the paintings, visual displays, photographs, images, maps and charts, manuscripts, coins, jewelry, various inscriptions and utensils in addition to audio and visual presentations.

Exhibition Hall of Saudi First & Second States

Representing an important historical period from the date of the Arabian Peninsula from 850-1309 H / 1446-1819 AD, highlights the conditions of the Arabian Peninsula before the first Saudi State. Besides, Dir'iyah foundation of the charter, the consolidation of governance and security and prosperity of science as well as the Dir'iyah siege after founding of the second Saudi State, which was followed by its stability and prosperity and then the Riyadh Departure period. This portrays the paintings, photographs, display items, modern maps, manuscripts, documents, weapons, coins, and utensils in addition to the different visual presentation for the siege of the Dir’iyah.

Exhibition Hall of the Kingdom's Unification

This Hall highlights the history of the modern Saudi State from the beginning of the Riyadh conquest by King Abdulaziz in 1319 Hijri corresponding in 1901 to the Unification of the Kingdom. In addition to the presentation of the modern architecture of all the regions which are tracking the beginning stages of consolidation and standardization of Najd and Al Qaseem, recovering Al Ahsa, restoration and consolidation of Hail and Al-Asir, Hijaz and then the declaration of the united Arab Saudi Arabia. In addition to this the wing illustrates the administrative system in King Abdulaziz era and the state organization and development as well as oil discovery story. The wing also includes the architectural models in the Kingdom in addition to scripts, weapons, rare books, documents, coins and various utensils. Besides ancient tools of education, heritage utensils, woolen tents a visual presentation narrating the story of unification of the Kingdom can be seen.

Exhibition Hall of Al Haj & The Two Holy Mosques

Exhibition in this hall is focusing on the pilgrimage since ancient times to the present day, contained in five wards as follows:
- Model of Makkah, holy rites and introduction to Al Haj rituals.
- The old pilgrim routes in the Arabian Peninsula.
- The history of Makkah, its courtyard and the Holy Ka’aba.
- The history of Al Madinah and its courtyard.
- Al Haj throughout centuries until the present time and the role of Saudi Arabia towards the Ka’aba pilgrimages.

In this room "Exhibition of Haj and the Two Holy Mosques" the exhibits of variety of materials, including artifacts, manuscripts and heritage documents, photographs, models,  modern maps and films are displayed.

Al Khozam Palace Museum

 

 

The Regional Museum, which is popularly known as Al Khozam Palace Museum is located in one of the palaces of King Abdul Aziz in Jeddah, particularly in Al Khozam Palace in Al Nozalah Al Yamania district. It was built in 1360H (1941G). After the repairs of the palace it was converted into a museum. The presentations are in accordance with the sequence of historic ages, from stone ages until the Islamic Ages and after. The halls of the museums are composed as follows:

Main Hall

It displays images of the Two Holy Mosques after the expansions by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques as well as some photographs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia antiquities besides illustrations of the museums around the Kingdom. A model of traditional fishing boat illustrates the value of the wealth of marine life to the inhabitants of the city of Jeddah.

Second Hall

Presents era prior to the date which is a pre-civilization to the Stone Age, when the human had used pieces of stone tools for daily life. The development models of which are represented by the heads of arrows and machetes. The presentations include the illustrations of tools and patterns of life in the stone ages, and their fishing practice.

Islamic Hall

Display represent the dawn of Islam until the late Islamic period, in different epochs. Most importantly of the displayed items are drawings illustrating spread of Islam from its main source, and photographs of the Islamic holy places -  the (the Grand Mosque of Makkah - the Prophet's Mosque in Madina). The hall also displays the Islamic currencies models, pieces of old pottery and a number of gravestones.

Jeddah Hall

It contains the exhibits of the ancient city of Jeddah and its development process and how it has evolved. The hall is displaying some old maps of the city of Jeddah; a model of Naseef House is being displayed in the centre of the hall.

Folklore Hall

It contains a number of folklore collections that reflect the evolution of life, which included the Arabian Peninsula. The displays include, clothing, traditional clothes of the Hejaz region and the desert areas and the daily living tools and instruments, including coffee utensils, jewelry, and some types of ancient weaponary.

The museum was opened to visitors after its official opening on 17/10/1415 (18/03/1995).

Shobrah Palace Museum

 

The museum was set up in the historical Shobrah Palace, which was built in 1323H 91905G). It was converted into a regional museum for the province of Taif and it was opened for the reception of visitors in 1415H (1995G). It consists of the following sections:
  - The Museum offers.
  - Administration.
  - Photography labs.
  - Plants and the restoration laboratory.
  - Warehouse.
  - Library: The collection of books as well as some specialized journals and bulletins.

The museum is employing (3) Specialist guides in archeology and (5) Administrators.

The contents of museum presentation

Museum is divided to Three Halls:


 Pre-Islamic Hall: From the beginning of the stone ages, until the Pre-Islamic (Ignorant times). It offers a range of pieces of stone and pottery and paintings of the inscriptions and rock engravings, in addition to the texts and photographs telling the story of each of the periods of pre-Islam.

Islamic Hall: starts from the migration of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) to Madina and the Caliphs and the successive Islamic periods and the presentation of a range of different archaeological pieces, including texts, images and designs belonging to this period.

Kingdom's unification Hall: Presents the beginning of the first Saudi state to modern times, and exhibition of paintings and photographs of the periods of the Saudi State, in addition to the showing of films containing a selection of traditional pieces of antiquities of the Kingdom.

Al Musmak Museum

 

It is located in the old district of Riyadh, as the center of one of the most important historical monuments in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which occupies a prominent place in the history of the city of Riyadh in particular and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in general, as a breakthrough that has been blessed in their establishment and consolidation of the Kingdom - A starting point for the estbalishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Al Musmak is a thick and tall fortified building built in the era of Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Rashid (1289 -1315H corresponding to 1872 – 1897G). It was recovered by the late King Abdulaziz in 1319H (1901G) which had been turned into an ammunition depot for a long time and had been used for this purpose until it was converted into a heritage landmark, to indicate stages of the founding of Saudi Arabia. This has been converted into a museum and opened on 13/01/1416H-11/6/1995G under the patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz, Emir of Riyadh.

The contents of the museum

The Palace Gate: the gate is located on the western side of the palace which is made of palm trunks and Alothel. There are three jambs of the door and in the middle section there is slot hole called the Al Khokha used as a small gate.

The Mosque: it is located to the left of the interior, which is a large hall with several columns and in the wall there are shelves for keeping holy Qur'an as well as the existence of the Mehrab (Prayer niche).

Diwaniyah: It is located opposed to the entrance; in the face of the interior is a rectangular "Sitting room" with a burrow, resembling a traditional type in Najd region. As well as there are openings for ventilation and lighting to the west and south.

The Well: It is located in the north-east side providing water through a water pulling mechanism that is fixed to the mouth of the well and the water is drawn by an Aquarius (traditional bucket).

The Towers: In each corner of the building on its four corners there are four cylinder-shaped towers. Climbing into them through slim staircases in addition to two wooden staircases. In each tower there are shooting stands around the perimeter of the tower.

In the center of Al Musmak there is square tower called Al Muraba'a overseeing the palace through the upper balcony. Also there is a major courtyard in the palace surrounded by rooms with columns connected to each other internally. The courtyard has steps in the eastern side leading to the first floor and the roof. Besides there are three residential units, the first one was used for the residence of the governor because they are integrated and connected to each other. The second one was used for Beit Al-Mal "Money house". The third devoted to the guests' residence. The first floor consists of rooms overlooking the main courtyard in addition to some of the rooms in the northern and eastern sides allocated for housing. The basic material in the construction of the palace comprised of mud and adobe mixed with straw. The foundation has been built from the stones. The palace has been converted into a museum narrating the story of the unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by late King Abdulaziz.

Al-Zaher Palace Museum in Makkah

 

The Al-Zaher Palace Museum of Makkah for antiquities was established in the Heritage Palace Al Zaher in an area of 3,425 m2. Its Construction was completed in 1365 AH / 1946 by order of King Abdul-Aziz Al Saud. The museum comprises the objects of history of Makkah since the dawn of history until the present prosperous days, for preserving the heritage, history and civilization of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in general and Makkah in particular. The museum is comprised of:

The Museum exhibits include presentations on a range of antiquities and heritage, coins and stone inscriptions and rock engravings, in addition to a range of educational tools and documents of old. The museum also houses a library and lecture hall.



 

Museum of Al Ola Antiquities

 

The museum is located in Al Ola city and municipality in Al Madinah Al Monawarrah province, thirty kilometers from Madain Saleh. The museum is part of a network of museums established by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), which oversees the museums and the archaeological sites of the region.

Museum Contents

- Entrance Hall: contains paintings of maps showing areas of archaeological sites around Al Ola, its neighboring areas and the network of museums in the Kingdom, besides paintings representing Holy Quranic verse and paintings on the development of modern Saudi Arabia.  Displayed are several photographs of Their Majesties the Kings of the Saudi Arabia and photographs related to Al Ola region. It also exhibits material from the folklore, such as weapons and tools, women adornment, clothing and tools to prepare coffee, cooking utensils and a model of the facades of Madain Saleh.

- Main Hall of the Museum: contains display cabinets,  paintings, texts, maps and drawings representing the historical periods since the ancient times gradually to the recent periods, starting with the stone ages and periods of thousands of years BC, in all their stages. Where the carved stone tools and utensils of stone and vessels of soap stone, pieces of copper coins of all periods up to pre-Islamic time are offered. There are tables of plates of ancient writings and languages, old rock engravings and paintings illustrating ancient trade routes and the geological ages and the formation of Earth. Life and environmental species of plants and animals that lived in Al Ola, in addition to the paintings that exhibit the archaeological sites in Al Ola, such as: Madain Saleh, Um Hadam Mountain, Um Zomorod Castle, Al Arakah and so on. Some show-cases display folklore material of Al Ola region, such as the weapons, manufacturing techniques in palm and palm fronds and other pieces of handicrafts, photographs of some crafts of the Al Ola region, as well as agricultural tools and paintings representing the Unification of the Kingdom by late King Abdul Aziz and the modern developments in the Kingdom.

The museum in addition to the exhibition hall includes, the Museum gallery renovation laboratories, Photography Lab, Paintings and survey tools as well as, a library that contains specialized books in history, a lecture hall with modern equipment and the supply depots for the conservation of archaeological heritage objects. Additionally, it is providing well equipped and dedicated housing for archeologists and researchers visiting the region.

The museum was opened for the first time to receive visitors on 27/01/1412 H / (07/08/1991).

Najran Museum

 

The Museum of Antiquities and Folklore Najran was established in Al Okhdood, next to an archaeological site in the old city of Najran, designed to be a center for the presentation and preservation of antiquities and heritage, which conveys the history of region. It consists of several sections and the museum has been furnished with all equipment and supplies required for the operation with the latest technology.  The different sections are are as follows:

  - Personnel and Administrative offices
  - Library containing many books and sources
  - Survey and drawing division with all its necessary equipment
  - Photography studio
  - Cinema and TV hall
  - VIP Lounge
  - A laboratory for the restoration of archaeological objects
  - Conservation of archeological items preserving hall
  - A repository for Antiquities
  - Excavation equipment store
  - Rest lounge of staff consisting of six rooms and a sitting hall
  - Housing for museum guards
  - Reception and Staging hall: which is considered as an open book in front of the visitors
that takes them on a tour through the successive stages of history - historical and cultural successive experiences of a person in Arabian Peninsula, and in particular in the region of Najran.

Reception hall is well equipped with the latest display technology, where it projects all available historical and civilization evidences that are related to the history and the civilization of the region, accompanied by documentary paintings providing historical information and explanations of illustrations as well as some photographs and many other evidences of a well-established civilization.

In another part of the museum, there is an uncovered hall for displaying antiquities of big sizes that were brought from Al Okhdood city. Due to fact that the human settlement began more than a million years ago in this region, many rare antiquities related to the stone atges are displayed in different and well-known divisions as well as other displays of comprehensive historical periods, subsequent to the  important civilization of the South Arabian Peninsula - from 600 BC to 300 AD, as well as exhibits of the various stages of the Islamic periods.

The good part of the terminal has been allocated to the region's folklore. In this part of the presentations all the region's famous folklore items are displayed, accompanied by illustrations, interpretations and information plaques. The museum was officially opened on 02-01-1416 H/ (31-05-1995).

Al Hafouf Museum

 

This museum is considered within the six major museums that have been established in the Kingdom. Construction of the museum was started in 1403 AH (1982) and it was officially opened in 1404 AH (1984).


The Contents of the Museum:

- Show hall: has been prepared to the highest standards of engineering and is provided with special displaying windows for presenting folklore of the region and some of the archaeological collections that have been found in the eastern region in addition to the development of educational and informative paintings and maps of archaeological sites so as to facilitate the visitor to know about locations of the displayed contents of the hall.

- The projection room: contains electronics, such as television, video and movie equipment and slide projectors where these devices are presented in rrelation to all the antiquities.


- Library: provided with various books especially those relate to history and antiquities as well as some English dictionaries.

- Laboratory: contain all the machinery for the process of repair and the development of archaeological sites with the latest technology.

- Entrance hall: It contains paintings and maps showing areas of archaeological sites in Al Ahsa and the museums network in Saudi Arabia in addition to plates with verse from the Holy Koran and others paintings and photographs of the modern developments of Kingdom and Al-Ahsa region in addition to several display cabinets containing material from the folklore, such as the weapons, tools to prepare coffee and cosmetics for women and clothing.

- Main Hall: The main hall of the Museum contains a number of cabinets displaying paintings, texts, maps and drawings, which represent different historical periods. Visuals of stone tools, hand-axes and scrappers in addition to the presentation of pottery shreds, representing slavery period. There are displays of antiquities representing many past civilizations that had prevailed in the eastern region such as Dulmon, Um Al Nar (Fire) civilizations. Excavated displays include broken utensils and pottery and seals of the antiquities of the Hellenistic period like utensils, pottery and copper utensils, coins and paintings, writing tables, models of ancient languages, the ancient trade routes in the Arabian Peninsula. The paintings here show the areas of archaeological sites in the eastern region, such as Thaj - Abqaiq - Tul Al Ramad - and other places. There are paintings on the ages and the geological composition of the Earth. There are also paintings representing the types of environmental life of plants and animals that lived in the eastern region, in addition to the examples from medieval Islamic periods, such as coins, pottery, glass, etc. There are cabinets to display special items of Eastern folklore, such as textiles, copper pots and utensils, crockery, silver and gold jewelry, weapons and industry models, vessels and fishing tools.

Museum was opened to the public on 27/1/1412 (07/08/1991).

Dammam Museum

 

The museum is located in a temporary building belonging to Dammam Public Library on an area of 1,281 m2. It was open for the reception of visitors in 1405 AH / 1985 and it consists of the following sections:

The museum is employing (6) Guides, and (14) Management staff.

Museum Content

- Man and Universe: displays texts and images talking about the beginning of the human and the composition of the Earth and the geological layers.

- Per-Islamic ages: the beginning of the stone ages, until Pre-Islamic times, the ignorant times. It offers a range of pieces of stones and pottery and paintings, stone inscriptions and engravings. There are accompanying texts and photographs telling the story of each of the periods of pre-Islam.

- Islamic hall: From the beginning of the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Medina and the Caliphs and the Islamic successive periods, in addition to the presentation of a range of different archaeological pieces, paintings including text, images and designs belonging to this period.

- Hall of HRH Prince Mohammad Bin Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud: includes a group of traditional pieces, coins and pottery. Also the museum exhibits films about the antiquities and heritage of the Kingdom.

Tem'a Museum

 

The museum was built in the years 1403 H / 1983 on an area of land 7,850 m2. It was opened for the reception of visitors in 1407 / 1987. It consists of the following sections:

  - Survey and drawing labs
  - Warehouse
  - Photography labs
  - Plants and the restoration laboratory
  - TV show hall
  - Researchers’ housing
  - Library: containing collection of books as well as some specialized journals and bulletins.

The museum is employing (4) guides and antiquities specialists, and (8) administrators.
Museum Content:

Al Qushlah Museum at Hail

 

The museum is located over an area of 1,500 m2 and it was opened to visitors after the renovation work in 1425 H /2004. It consists of the following sections:

Museum Content

- Entrance hall: contains Qur'an verse explaining relation between religion and archeological studies. In addition to paintings about the Kingdom antiquities as well as display of pictures of the most important historical monuments in the Kingdom.

- Hall of natural history and geology of the Hail region: a presentation on rock samples from the region, with a focus on mining sites, mining and environmental heritage and the flora and fauna in Hail.

- Prehistoric ages in Hail region: From the beginning of the stone ages, until the periods preceding the Islamic times, (Jahilia periods). It offers a set of stones and pottery and paintings, stone inscriptions and engravings. There are accompanying texts and photographs revealing the story of each of these periods of pre-Islam.

- Hail hall during Islamic history: From the beginning of the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Medina and the Caliphs and successive periods of Islam, in addition to the presentation of a range of different archaeological pieces, paintings including text, images and designs testifying to this period.

- Hail heritage hall: presentation of a range of industries, wood, clothing, jewelry and a variety of cooking utensils and farming implements.

- Hall of Hail in Saudi era: talking about the accession of Hail to the Saudi regime and the people of the region's participation in the unification effort of the Kingdom, and the princes, who alternated and led the Emirate of Hail.

- Hall of education in Hail: indicates beginning of formal education in the region and the opening of the first schools in the region in addition to the screening of a series of books, pens and a set of old messages.

Al Jouf Museum

 

Al Jouf Museum is located in the vicinity of Dumat al-Jandal, and the giant ancient Marid castle. It is a part of a network of museums of the Kingdom. It oversees many of the archaeological sites of the region and contains in addition to the galleries, the labs of restoration, photography, painting, space for a library of books specializing in archeology, history, and a hall for lectures containing film projectors and presentation of the segments, and so on. It also houses the museum stores for the conservation of antique scientifically equipped, and researchers housing dedicated to the archeologists.

Museum Content

- Entrance hall: Containing plates of maps showing archaeological sites in Al Jouf and the network of Kingdom’s museums, paintings of verse from the Holy Koran and the paintings on the development of modern Saudi Arabia and photographs of Their Majesties the Kings and the images of Al Jouf region. There are display cabinets to display large items such as folklore, weapons and cooking utensils.

- Main hall: The main hall of the museum displays cabinets containing plates, photographs, texts, maps and drawings arranged according to historical periods of past times. It is also displaying artifacts of first, middle, and modern stone ages - such as hand axes and scrapers, arrows heads, blades, etc., especially given that the Al-Jouf is rich in archaeological sites chronicling to Stone Ages. There are models of ancient pottery, types of jewelry and ancient coins, paintings and writings in particular, lines of ancient language, maps of trade routes, especially from the Dumat Al-Jandal. The Museum is also displaying paintings on the ages and the geological composition of the Earth and the life of environmental and animal species that lived in Al-Jouf including examples of discovered items in the region. There are plates with text on the importance of the region and the old name and the events of its converting to Islam. The museum showcases are displaying items that are dating back to the Islamic age such as pottery, glass, coins, jewelry and the like including paintings of the modern history of Al-Jouf and its entry under the Saudi regime and the unification of the Kingdom by King Abdul Aziz until the modern development in the Kingdom.

Jazan Museum

 

Jazan museum is located in the city of Subia next to the archeological site of Al Adarisa. It is a part of the Kingdom's museums network which have been established by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) which is supervising many archeological sites in the province.

- Entrance Hall: Containing plates of maps showing archaeological sites in Jazan region and the network of Kingdom’s museums, paintings of verse from the Holy Koran and the paintings on the development of modern Saudi Arabia and photographs of Their Majesties the Kings and the images of Jazan region. There are large cabinets to display items such as folklore, garments, weapons and cooking utensils, and the like.

- Main hall: The main hall of the museum: display cabinets containing plates, photographs, texts, maps and drawings arranged according to historical periods of ancient times. It is displaying also artifacts of first, middle, and modern stone ages, such as hand axes and scrapers, arrows heads, blades, etc., There are models of ancient pottery, types of jewelry and ancient coins, paintings and writings in particular, lines of ancient language. In addition to the paintings from the ancient trade routes from the south to the north and branched to the east and west panels on the geological ages and composition of the Earth and environmental life in Jazan. In addition to some paintings important archaeological sites in the region of Jazan and plates with texts illustrating the entry of the region to the folds of Islam. Also there cabinets allocated for displaying return to the era of Islamic pottery and glass utensils, coins, jewelry and others. There are paintings and display cabinets, especially the articles of folklore, such as cooking utensils, clothing, jewelry and cosmetics for women and leather and of palm and palm fronds manufactories, etc. In addition to displaying the famous handicrafts in Jazan region. Also the painting of modern history and the entry under the Saudi regime and the unification of the Kingdom by King Abdul Aziz, besides the aspects of recent development in the Kingdom.

The museum contains several sections, the most important of them is the office of the Museum Director, Secretariat, Administration, Department for the restoration and maintenance of effects, Photography lab, Survey and Drawing, Engineering Department, Warehouse for survey and excavation tools, Warehouse of heritage and antiquities, Lectures halls, housing, external workshop, etc.

The museum opened for visitors on 27/01/1412 (07/08/1991).

Al Namas Museum

 

It is located in the middle of the old quarter at Al Namas city, in one of the historical palaces of the city. Its construction dates back to more than 250 years ago. It consists of five floors. Large part of the museum presents the heritage of the region in several rooms, including:


  - Hall of agricultural tools
  - Hall of household appliances
  - Hall of Weapons
  - Women's Hall
  - Hall of manuscripts

In addition to displays, samples of the rock engravings are found inside the museum. The courtyard of the museum contains samples of models of the stone buildings their construction methods and the methods of water extraction from the depths of the earth. Samples of some Islamic writings on the rocks and some traditional tools, the model of the furnaces that were used in the past are also displayed.
 

 

 

Al Baha Museum

 

Museum is located on the ground area 2000 m2 and it was opened to visitors in 1424 AH / 2003, and it consists of the following sections:

- Prehistory ages: start from stone ages until pre-Islam. The exhibits include a set of stone implements and pottery pieces. Paintings and the stone inscriptions as well as photographs telling the story of each of the periods of pre-Islam.

- Hall of Al Baha through Islamic history: From the beginning of the migration of the Prophet (peace be upon him) to Medina and the Caliphs and Islamic successive periods, in addition to the presentation of a range of different archaeological pieces, paintings including text, images and designs belonging to this period.

- Al Baha Heritage Hall: contains a set of wooden implements manufactories and some clothing and jewelry, and a range of cooking utensils and farming implements.

- Al Baha in Saudi Crown: speaks about the accession of the Al Baha to the Saudi regime, and the participation of the region in the unification of the Kingdom. As well as photographs and paintings of Emirs who led the Principality Gamd and Zahran and ruled the regions in successive times.

- Hall of Education in Al Baha: tells about the beginning of formal education in the region, and the opening of the first schools in the region, in addition to the screening of a series of books, pens and a set of old messages.
